A recent 2-day Ofsted Monitoring Visit found that the Amersham and Wycombe campuses (previously College) had made ‘significant progress’, since its merger with Aylesbury College to form the Buckinghamshire College Group 17 months ago.
Inspectors gave three ratings of ‘significant progress’, the highest that can be given at a monitoring visit and one of ‘reasonable progress’. Their report said ‘Leaders and managers have made a wide range of improvements for staff and students. They have implemented processes to monitor and improve progress and outcomes for students.’ The result being that ‘a greater proportion of students achieved their qualifications’ last year. Buckinghamshire College Group’s overall achievement rates for students last year were above the national average.
Their report highlighted the positive working with employers and a curriculum offer that is aligned to the needs of employers and local industries. ‘Courses cover a wide range of sector areas’, particularly noting the strong links with creative, health and care, and construction industries. The College offers a range of A-Level equivalent courses, with other levels aimed to provide progression into these, as well as higher education programmes.
Karen Mitchell, Principal and CEO said, "I am delighted that Ofsted has recognised the significant progress that has been made since the merger and I would like to thank staff, governors and students for their hard work and efforts in achieving this. We will continue to build on the findings and continue to work hard to provide a great learning experience at our Aylesbury, Amersham and Wycombe campuses."
