Buckinghamshire College Skills Bootcamps
Skills Bootcamps are a great way for people to develop a new skill, further enhance their skills to progress in their current career or those not currently in work to gain knowledge and experience in a short period of time.
Skills Bootcamps are primarily aimed at delivering flexible training at levels 2-5 in courses no longer than 12 weeks. They are co-designed with employers to respond to their skills shortages. They are flexible so learning can fit around your family and other commitments.
Bricklaying Skills Bootcamp
Start Date: Friday 4th October 2024
Time: 9am - 4pm
Course length: 10 weeks – attendance in person every Friday for 10 weeks
Structure of course: Mix of in College learning and online learning.
Course Details: The bricklaying bootcamp includes plumb gauge, setting out, working to line and finishing - the skills needed for bricklayers to be left to work independently to construct simple walls. Bootcamp attendees will also gain their CSCS Card (subject to passing test and £36 application fee), NOCN, Abrasive Wheels and First Aid at Work qualifications. The bricklaying content is aligned to the Level 2 Bricklayer apprenticeship standard, enabling progression to an accelerated apprenticeship.

Property Maintenance Skills Bootcamp
Start Date: Tuesday 5th November 2024
Time: 1pm – 7.30pm
Course length: 10 weeks– attendance in person every Tuesday for 10 weeks
Structure of course: Mix of in College learning and online learning.
Course Details: Property Maintenance bootcamp will support progression either to employment in caretaker/property maintenance vacancies or into self-employed work as a 'handyperson'. Skills delivered include basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry. The content is aligned to the Level 2 Property Maintenance apprenticeship standard. Learners will also achieve a CSCS Card (subject to passing test and £36 application fee), NOCN and First Aid at Work qualification.

Leadership & Management Skills Bootcamp
Start Date: TBC
Time: 9am - 1pm
Course length: 10 weeks– attendance in person every week for 10 weeks
Structure of course: Mix of in College learning and online learning.
Course Details: The content of the Leadership and Management bootcamp will align the training to the Team Leader apprenticeship standard.
Programme content will include: Leadership styles, managing team and individual performance, managing conflict, working with budgets, innovation and change, problem solving and decision making.
The Bootcamp will use a blend of face to face and online delivery, including using Teams for live elements as well as learning content delivered online for participants to work through between sessions.

Energy Assessment Skills Bootcamp
Start Date: Monday 2nd December 2024
Time: 9am – 5pm
Course length: 7 full days of training (2nd and 3rd December 2024, and 20th January – 24th January 2025) and directed study of 25 hours
Structure of course: Mix of in person and online learning.
Course Details: The Skills Bootcamp is a 70-hour guided learning programme delivered through a mix of face-to-face sessions in practical learning spaces and online modules. It includes a core element of technical content, detailed below, along with a focus on health and safety, employability, and professional skills.
Participants will have the opportunity to obtain a Health and Safety qualification from NOCN, and prepare for the CITB Operatives Level Health, Safety, and Environment Test. The Skills Bootcamp also offers employability support, including CV writing, job search strategies, interview preparation, and training on using social media to build professional social capital.
The Energy Assessment Skills Bootcamp will cover testing buildings for energy efficiency, air tightness, and sound insulation to ensure compliance with legal requirements. Additionally, the course will include training on ventilation commissioning. This training will be held at The Building Performance Hub in High Wycombe.
Training will include:
- Air Tightness Testing training including a live blower door test as a building regulatory requirement.
- Acoustics & Noise Control training including an understanding of acoustics and noise control in buildings, particularly sound insulation, reverberation time, sound absorption and the basics of conducting noise surveys to predict noise levels internally.
- Ventilation Commissioning training, how to measure flow rates and why ventilation is so important in modern buildings.
- Construction sustainability and building our buildings for longevity is important and why low energy buildings are important in the context of energy security.

Renewable Technologies Skills Bootcamp
Start Date: 10th January 2025
Time: 9am – 5pm
Course length: 11 weeks– attendance in person every Friday for 11 weeks
Structure of course: Mix of in College learning and online learning.
Course Details: This Skills Bootcamp will upskill plumbers who hold an outdated qualification at Level 3. The Skills Bootcamp is a 70-hour guided learning programme delivered through a mix of face-to-face sessions in practical learning spaces and online modules.
It includes core elements of technical content in renewables technology training and employability support in the form of CV writing, job searching, interview preparation and social media training to build professional social capital.
The skills bootcamp will provide comprehensive training and assessment on water regulations, unvented systems, enabling learners to progress to more advanced systems such as air source heat pumps, solar thermal installation, central heating, and low-temperature design and fault finding. This will give the learners the scope and knowledge to work on these systems. Learners will gain certification in Water Regulations and Unvented Systems and prepare them to apply for MCS accreditation.

Who is eligible for a skills Bootcamp?
Our Skills Bootcamps are for adults aged 19 or over as of the 31st August 2024 who are either in work, self-employed, recently unemployed or returning to work after a break.
You need to speak a good level of English and have a willingness to learn.
You must have lived in England for at least the last 3 consecutive years, and have the right to work in the United Kingdom
Skills Bootcamps are also open to serving prisoners due to be released within 6 months of completing a Skills Bootcamp and those on temporary release.
How much does a Skills Bootcamp cost?
If you are unemployed, employed but ready for career change, or an employer recruiting an individual who has completed a Skills Bootcamp, there is no cost.
Large employers looking to upskill their current staff will contribute 30% of the cost for their staff members. Small and medium employers (SME’s) will contribute 10% for their staff members’ upskilling.
