The UK film and television industry is one of the world’s greatest providers of cinematic entertainment and requires  passion, creativity, technical ability, vision, research and commitment.

As Hollywood continues to invade our shores with recent productions of upcoming blockbusters such as Mission Impossible 7, Indiana Jones 5, Kraven the Hunter, Snow White and Fast X; the demand for talent behind the camera is currently very high within this industry.

Ideal for those with an interest in pursuing film or media-related studies, this intense and fast-paced course will give you the chance to explore a variety of roles within the filmmaking process and develop an understanding of both the creative and technical aspects of making a film. Held at our Amersham Campus, the course will allow you to make use of our brand new 'industry standard' film and television studio as well as our computer suites and green screen facilities.

Course structure

1. Pre-Production (2 Days) 

21st - 22nd July  at the college / 23rd - 24th July  online individual script Q & A

Students will work in the following areas: a series of lectures and workshops including:

  • Storyboarding
  • Technical and creative pre-production
  • Script development
  • Set-building
  • Understanding professional facilities, inclusive of facilities, editing programmes, recording equipment, lens selection and operation.
  • Talent casting
  • Test shoot


2. Production

25th - 26th July

Course members will produce a short film/drama which they will edit.  The drama will be based on a given theme and template using a specially designed interior set as the main story location. Two professional actors will be on hand to be utilised effectively. Filming to take place within college interiors, appropriate exteriors and in the college’s TV studio on a group rotational format.


3. Post-Production

28th - 29th July

These post-production days will include industry-standard tutoring on the following relevant programmes, so students will be able to edit visuals, colour correction, colour grading, creative editing, technical editing and sound design, which will introduce the students to foley, editing speech, understanding use of music, etc

  • Final Cut Pro X
  • Adobe Premiere Pro

Facilities

We will provide students with all the facilities and professional-grade equipment they’ll need to produce a short feature film. Students begin working with a NETFLIX approved camera, the Lumix S1H with high resolution lenses and finish up the editing on a 14 core 4k iMac Pro.
