This course is suitable if you have a passion for creative and digital arts, games, game character design, 2D and 3D animation, illustration, and concept art. Games designers are often responsible for the overall game concept, planning the story, characters, environments, rules and levels.

What will I learn?
You will be able to create cutting edge digital illustrations to make exciting concept art and engaging graphic narratives with a focus on games. The course will introduce you to art creation, digital painting and a focus on digital 3D modelling using state of the art equipment and software. In addition the course covers structured drawing development, research, analysis and many other academic core skills.
This course is focussed on enhancing your creative skills in both theory and practice of game production. You will learn how to plan, create concepts and structure games and game assets through practical workshops and assignments. The course allows you to build skills in pre-production, story development and asset creation.
The second year builds upon the fundamentals taught in the first year and branches into new fields such as digital sculpting. This will be developed through the planning and production of your own game assets. The course is focused in on core skills used within this dynamic and creative industry utilising a games pathway.

How will I be assessed?
The University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice; Game Art, is assessed through a series of projects that are designed to broaden students skills, experience and expertise. In your first year, the first 2 units are delivered with a Pass or Fail outcome. A final project (The FMP) decides the students overall grade for the year which is graded at: Pass, Merit or Distinction.
The second year (Extended Diploma) is made up of 3 units, with the first 2 units delivered with a Pass or Fail outcome and the final unit making up the FMP for year 2, with the overall grade being either a Pass, Merit or Distinction. Student work is externally assessed and scrutinised by External Verifiers from the University of the Arts London to ensure that academic standards are adhered maintained.

Entry Requirements
To join this programme you will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (or equivalent) including Maths and English.

There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for appropriate direct entry to University or employment in a vocationally relevant professional/industry sector or employment in the vocational sector. Successful completion will provide access to a wide range of university courses or employment.

A portfolio of creative work must be brought to interview
A studio fee to pay for materials is required, a bursary is available to help with costs if required. We strive to support our student learning through termly trips, these will be charged per trip, bursary is available to support where needed.
Your course will be timetabled over 3 or 4 days, with approximately 6-12 hours work of directed homework per week depending on the level of course. Our days run from 9am to 4.45pm.
Your study programme include your vocational course and also Maths, English, Digital Skills, Tutorial and Career Progression sessions, attendance to all aspects is mandatory.
