This qualification develops practical skills, promotes sound working practices, and provides essential industry knowledge to help learners to progress into higher levels of learning or into sustainable employment in the land-based sector. Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of how to promote and maintain the health and well-being of animals, including identification of abnormal signs, monitoring, and maintaining accurate records, as well as understanding of diets, animal behaviour and caring for young animals.

What will I learn?
Build on your Level 2 Animal Care qualification by gaining solid skills in animal husbandry, working hands-on with wildlife in a busy Hospital. This nationally recognised, accredited qualification builds upon your prior knowledge of animal care covering health, welfare, nutrition and behaviour.

How will I be assessed?
Progress and achievement is recorded throughout the year via practical assessments and written assignments. Students are expected to complete assignments at home to improve their overall background knowledge.

Entry Requirements
To join this programme you will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (or equivalent) including Maths and/or English.

Progression & Career Opportunities
As part of the Level 3 Practical Skills qualification you will be given support in moving into the industry, for example as an Animal Technician or Trainee Zoo Keeper, or gain promotion to a more senior position within existing employment.
It also offers access to further education, such as Level 3 Technical Extended Diploma Animal Management course.

Cost of Study
16-18 year-old students are exempt from tuition and registration fees. (You will need to be 18 or under at the start of each academic year to qualify for funding in that year).
19+ Course fees are £1,175. 19-24 year-olds may qualify for full or partial course fees funding, depending on eligibility criteria.
On enrolment, ALL students will need to purchase & wear uniform tops. This is not covered by tuition fees.

Additional Information
This course runs four days a week: three week days, plus one day at the weekend, for 11 months. 16-18 year olds requiring English or Maths classes will additionally attend lessons at the Buckinghamshire College Group.
