This is a two-year course for students interested in a career as an Artist, in a range of industries such as print, design and illustration.
The course comprises of 13 unites which are assessed through coursework. These units are presented to the students as a series of projects focusing on a wealth of skills within art and design.

What will I learn?
The Art & Design Pathway consists of projects that explore a variety of contemporary art skills including both traditional and digital media. An emphasis is placed on research, development of strong ideas in sketchbooks and the use of the colleges art and design facilities to produce sophisticated final designs.
All assessment, including final assessment, is based on course work. A regular programme of trips ensures that students visit major art galleries and other places relevant to their project work, for example the V&A, Tate Modern and Eden Project. As part of their course, students are expected to undertake work experience. Themes within the course consist of Printmaking, Illustration, Visual Communication and Contemporary Art Practices, covering a range of topics that reflect todays society. We use a range of mixed media in both 2D and 3D formats.
This course has a 98% success rate 10% above the National Average for students doing this type of course and last year over 50% of students went on to study at Higher Education level at some of the top Universities in the country. Many students go on to have a career as an artist in industries such as fine art, photography, illustration, visual communication, printmaking and branding.
Art and Design is part of the Creative portfolio of courses at the Amersham Campus. The area has achieved outstanding status 5 times and has always been positively recognised as a key player in the creative industries among its peers.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above including English Language and Maths.
Alternatively we will accept a full Level 2 qualification at Merit grade or above providing English Language and Maths have been passed. All applicants must bring a portfolio of work to their interview.

You could continue onto a Foundation Degree or BA Degree in this vocational area or in related sectors.
