This T Level celebration week, we are proud to introduce, Amelia. Amelia studied T Level in Childcare at Buckinghamshire College Group and has recently progressed to University. We spoke with Amelia about her experience.

Why did you choose to take a T Level?

I decided to take a T Level at College because I wanted to study Childcare. When I looked into the course, I thought it would be a good option as not only would it give me the opportunity to gain work experience in childcare at the end of it, it would also give me a qualification that is equivalent to 3 A-levels. Also, if I changed my mind about what I wanted to do at the end of the course it gave me lots of options for further education.

What was the best thing about the T level in Childcare?

The best thing about the course was going on placement. It allowed me to experience what it is like to be in the workplace and I was able to use what I had learned about in class whilst I was there, to help me to settle in and understand the children in the setting.

Where did you do your Placement?

My placement was in a local pre-school and I really enjoyed it. Once I had settled in I really felt part of the team and was able to work in partnership will all of the staff to understand the setting and the children. I stayed at my placement for the duration of the course and this meant that I was able to have more responsibility and a real insight into what it would be like to work in this environment.

What have you been up to since completing your T Level?

I am now currently studying Children and Young People’s Nursing at Bournemouth University. I think that the T Level helped me to prepare for Uni because it had a good balance between theory and practical work which is a similar structure to my Uni course. As part of the assessments at College we were beginning to write academically and learn how to do this correctly which will now support me when doing assignments at University. The experience that I had in placement whilst completing my T level will support me when I go on my first placement at University because I now have the skills of going into a new environment and learning how different settings work.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about doing a T Level?

My advice to anyone thinking about taking a T level is to do it! It will give you lots of new experiences, not only by going on placement but in the classroom too. Remember that what you put in is what you get out and therefore if you work hard and complete all of your work you will do well. If you need help at any time, just ask! Your teachers will support you and help you with anything you are unsure of, and this will help you when it comes to independent work.

We would like to congratulate Amelia on completing her T Level with us and wish her the best of luck in her Nursing Degree at Bournemouth University. We know she'll do amazing!
