Following on from the success of Nativity in October last year we are delighted to share that our Backstage Theatre students returned to work on The Wiz at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre in August.

This time, they worked on two performances, and raised an enormous £75,000 for Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity (FNHC). We are all absolutely delighted.

We provided set, costume, props and equipment as well as a student team, and as before, the collaboration gave them experience of working in a professional venue again, where they took on roles such as lighting design, programming and operation, follow spot operation, assistant stage managing, set painting, costume and prop making and rigging/running sound equipment.

Once again, we had two graduates of the course volunteering, Lily Swift and Daniel Leaf, both of whom gave up their time whilst on summer holidays from their respective drama school degree courses. Thank you to them both for mentoring the current students on the project and being great alumni ambassadors.

This leads us on to the upcoming exciting development between Buckinghamshire College Group, Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity (FNHC) and Wycombe Swan. FNHC are taking last year’s production of Nativity to Wycombe Swan in October. They will be joined by Amersham Campus tutors Zoe Harbour, Paul Batten and Tim Day who will be working on using the experience as an employer-led assignment for the students, who will be able to use the experience to progress within their course. We would like to thank FNHC and Wycombe Swan for assisting us with this future collaboration. Our students (and staff) can’t wait!
