Industry Placement Officer, Kit Rose recently got the chance to visit two of last years’ Music Technology Students, Grace Sheffield and Lewis Emery who both took the opportunity to carry out a paid summer placement with AED UK, a highly regarded international Audio Visual supply company.
Buckinghamshire College Group has forged strong links with AED this year and with the help of WorkZone, both Grace and Lewis connected with Operations Coordinator, Cameron Gallagher to organise these placements.
They both felt that their Music Tech course had given them the knowledge and tools for the workplace, having an understanding of speakers and mixing desks as well as many other things. During their time at AED they have been testing lighting and speakers and are now fully trained on working with L-Acoustic speakers. They have both found the experience very rewarding and have made a number of great connections who can help them on their journey into industry in the future.

“Since joining us in July, both Grace and Lewis have been assets to the team; from showing up on time to being conscientious and diligent individuals, they have both helped us with the day to day activities of the warehouse at ‘AED Group’. Their work ethic never wavered, and were always ready for the next task, no matter if it was unloading a 45ft trailer, or testing some L-Acoustics industry grade sound systems. For me, you cannot teach attitude and passion, and with both of the students, that is not something I ever had to worry about. I wish them all the success that may come their way, and I am here for guidance if they would like to progress further into the industry.”
Both Grace and Lewis are continuing in education with Grace starting her Music and Sound Production course at BIMM, Brighton and Lewis starting his Music Technology course at Birmingham City University. We wish them well for the future and look forward to hearing about their future endeavours.
