Fourteen of our Health and Social Care students have been selected to become Nurse Cadets at two local hospitals in Aylesbury and Wycombe. The cadet scheme gives experience in a number of areas and aims to help people decide which career route they may wish to follow.
The successful applicants have already started their programme following a two week induction process, and will be in the hospital one day per week for the remainder of their Level 3 programme at College.
Nurse cadets are placed in a range of wards including, Cardiac and Stroke, Dermatology, Day Surgery and Gerontology. All nurse cadets have a buddy on their ward who is there to support them, and are receiving group supervision (similar to clinical supervision) to support their wellbeing further.
Maria Wilkinson, Faculty Director for Health & Life Sciences said “It is real work, in a real workplace and they have had to learn quickly about employability skills – time keeping, compliance, confidentiality, duty of care and ethical dilemmas and much more. They are all extremely tired but loving the experience!”
