Students from our HNC Make up, Hair and Costume, and Props, Set Dressing and Directing courses that are taught between Amersham and Pinewood Studios recently went on a trip to Berlin to gather primary research for a film they will be shooting called “Sunrise in Berlin”.

The trip started with a 3 hour guided walking tour of East Berlin, a brilliant way of getting their bearings, learning a lot about the history of the city and learning from a local about life before and after the wall came down in 1989.

The following days saw them visiting various museums and places of interest, including the Berlin Wall, The Wall Museum, Checkpoint Charlie and the DDR museum. They saw preserved, original graffiti walls from the 80s, visited a real East Berlin apartment and were able to compare it to the one recreated in the DDR museum.

The purpose was to get a real understanding of what East Germany looked and felt like in the 80s around the time the wall came down. This will help the students create an authentic film using their different skills. The props, set decoration, character creations and film will all be on display at the HNC End of Year Show which is scheduled for Friday 10 July at Pinewood Studios.
