Careers Advisor, Caroline Craft, has inteviewed current student Farhan Mohammed, 18, from High Wycombe about his success during lockdown. Farhan is currently studying BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business at our Aylesbury Campus.
What have you been doing during lockdown?
Apart from completing my college course, I have been developing my Instagram page 4ccesstech. I started the page just before we went into lockdown and I have grown it from 200 to 1000 followers. The page gives updates on up and coming different technologies, including stories and polls. I also provide reviews of different products. I have followers from all over the world, but mostly the USA.
Why have you decided to develop your Instagram page during lockdown?
It has helped me occupy my time and do something useful. I spend about 4 hours per day on my page and it is helping me think about a career and I am now passionate and interested in digital marketing. I also make about 6 to 7 posts a week.
How has developing your Instagram page made you feel?
It has improved my confidence, as I have grown interest and followers to the page, not just here in the UK, but around the world. I am much better at writing as I have to structure the page, and this has helped me complete my assignment work. I also am thinking of doing level 3 business if I cannot get an apprenticeship and this will help my analytical skills, as I must do a lot of analysing when constructing the page.
How can you use your lockdown experience in the future?
I have already put it onto my CV, and it is something that I can tell employers at an interview. I will be able to use all the knowledge gained to hopefully get a career in Digital Marketing and maybe a good apprenticeship.
What are you looking most forward to when we come out of lockdown?
Being able to meet people who I haven’t seen in a long time, like friends and family.
