“…a dagger of the mind, a false creation, proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?” (Act II Scene I)
Directed and adapted by Course Leader for Acting, Irene Rambota, this production is a reworking of William Shakespeare’s complex and brutal tragedy of Macbeth.
Irene says, ‘We started the rehearsal process asking, “What if there were no witches? What if the voices prophesying kingship and greatness all came from Macbeth himself?” This led to an exploration of the human mind and the contradictions that can lie within: power and powerlessness, courage and fear, kindness and cruelty, confidence and self-doubt. Investigating the inner workings of the tormented, intricate psyche of both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, this ‘dagger of the mind’ takes the audience through the labyrinth of voices and personas that propel the ambitious couple to the dark world of violence they initiate and cannot stop.’
Irene and the students involved would like to invite the public to watch the show, live on the 30th and 31st March at 2pm and 6.30pm. To book a ticket, click the button below.
