Buckinghamshire College Group are pleased to share that Photography Lecturer, Tom Warland has recently become an ambassador for Analogue Wonderland.
Some of the most creative and expressive ideas in photography now involve the use of film and darkrooms. Analogue Wonderland is the retailer of the widest range of film products in the UK, and also host events such as Photo Walks and Workshops thoughout the year. While studying Photography at Buckinghamshire College Group, we encourage student and staff to make use of all industry links; and Analogue Wonderland is a prime example of this.
Since Buckinghamshire College Group began working with Analogue Wonderland, they have supported our Photography lecturers and encourages students to learn about darkrooms and processing rooms and for them to explore the use of film in their work. Lecturers, including Tom turn classrooms into camera obscuras, and students sit inside the 'camera' to help them understand how light travels and how the camera really works. They also spend time building pinhole cameras out of old boxes or tins and print the results in the darkroom.
This approach means that the College proudly now have ex-students who have careers as professional printers in darkrooms in London, or even some that have used their knowledge to help them achieve jobs with brands such as Supreme, Virgin Atlantic and Gap. Analogue Wonderland have also hired some of our students based on the love of shooting film they developed whilst studying at Bucks College Group.
Along with supporting students after they leave College, Analogue Wonderland have partnered with the College to supply discounted materials and production meathods that aren't available at the College. Since becoming an Ambassador for Analogue Wonderland, Tom has participated in events, and has written many blog posts that are live and available to read now. For Tom, becoming an Ambassador was about encouraging new photographers to experiment with shooting film, alternative processes and the use of the darkroom. Congratulations Tom!
