National Apprenticeship Week (NAW 2019) takes place this week (4 to 8 March) and at Bucks College Group we have over 36 Apprenticeship options, covering a wide range of subjects and qualifications. With this in mind we assembled some key Apprentices who are already making a real contribution whilst studying at college to ask them why they chose an Apprenticeship and what they enjoy most about it.

NAW2019 Apprentices First we spoke with Emma, our Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprentice, working with TEEG Digital.

NAW2019 Crofty Profile Why did you choose a BCG Apprenticeship?

I didn’t know that doing a social media apprenticeship was possible, until I found an advertisement for one at Bucks College Group. I immediately gravitated towards it. As a young person, I am very familiar with the ins and outs of social media and the idea of working in an area that I enjoyed and knew a lot about was very appealing to me.

Is the job meeting your expectations?

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect as this was my first full-time job, however it’s the best decision I made for myself and I’m so glad I applied for the position. The job is enjoyable and has allowed me to meet some amazing colleagues and everyone has been so friendly in welcoming me to the job!

What do you hope to do on completion of your apprenticeship?

After seeing the way in which the college works, and the people here, I would love to stay on the Marketing team after my Apprenticeship finishes. Even though I have only been here 3 months, I have already learned so much and become much more independent.

Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship? If so, why?

I would recommend doing an Apprenticeship to anyone who values their independence and wants to earn while they learn. Doing an Apprenticeship can give you the qualifications and experience you need to progress, while easing you in to the workplace in preparation for your future. I am grateful for Bucks College Group as they have allowed me to be creative with my work and build an understanding of what life is like in the workplace.

Next, we talked to Kieran, our Level 3 Apprentice in Business Administration, who works in Reprographics.

 NAW2019 Keiren Profile

Why did you choose a BCG Apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship to further expand on my knowledge of the work environment, while also getting my qualification in business administration which will greatly help me later on when moving onto a new job.

Is the job meeting your expectations?

It has exceeded my expectations for what I thought the college could have to offer, I have gained so much knowledge and experience working here already and I haven’t even done half my course yet. I am eager to continue to learn.

What do you hope to do on completion of your apprenticeship?

If given the opportunity I would carry on doing what I’m doing, but I would make better use of my qualification and apply for a Job I couldn’t have done normally, really go out of my comfort zone.

Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship and if so why?

I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship, for those people who love to learn more but might not be able to because of their work, or would like a qualification without having to do a full-time course again, why not work and learn? It’s a real no-brainer in my opinion!

We also asked Ottilie, who is studying a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Customer Service.

Why did you choose a BCG apprenticeship?

I choose an apprenticeship because when I left school I didn’t want to go to sixth form or college. I wanted to go straight into working, which an apprenticeship allows me to do and I also gain a qualification.

What do you hope to do on completion of your apprenticeship?

After I complete my apprenticeship, I hope my organisation will offer me a permanent position. If not, I will look at getting a full time job in another organisation with a similar role.

Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship and if so why?

I would recommend doing an apprenticeship as school is not for everyone and some people learn best by doing the job rather than being sat in a classroom.

Lastly we met Mikhali who is currently undertaking a Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship.

Why did you choose a BCG apprenticeship?

I choose an apprenticeship because I wanted learn new skills in the workplace environment.  The apprenticeship has met my expectations and I'm enjoying the experience.

What do you hope to do on completion of your apprenticeship?

I intended to advance to a Level 3 Apprenticeship to continue to enhance my skills to enable me to work at the highest level.

Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship and if so why?

I would recommend an apprenticeship because it is a good way to build confidence and learn new skills under lectures  with many different experiences and get paid whilst learning and prepares you for working in your chosen industry.

Thank you to our Apprentices for sharing their stories and continuing to support Bucks College Group!
