During these uncertain times when we are experiencing ‘lockdown’ and isolation, Balance of the Mind in Aylesbury continues to support their clients, ably assisted by students from the Buckinghamshire College Group.
Six Science students from our Aylesbury and Wycombe campuses are currently working in Pharmacies and are continuing their placement to support with the coronavirus outbreak. The students have been getting extra training and more responsibility so they can assist more with the high demands.
We are incredibly proud of our NHS Apprentices, who are currently on a break in learning to support with the coronavirus outbreak. There are 85 learners in total, all aged 18 or over who are working across a number of local hospitals and health centres.
This is an incredibly difficult time for employers and businesses in the County, and Bucks Business First (BBF) have asked us to make sure that businesses who support our apprenticeships and industry placements are aware of the support available to you through BBF.
The Workzone Team at our Aylesbury Campus have been developing opportunities for students to gain some work experience with The Green Dragon Eco Farm in Hogshaw.
Here is an update from our Principal, Karen Mitchell, explaining what we’re doing to support our students with their continuity of learning.
The College continues to work to the Government’s advice and instructions and moved to on-line learning from Monday 23rd March, with College campuses closed to students, staff and visitors from 25th March.
Our nursery at the Aylesbury campus and Life Skills Centres at Aylesbury and Wycombe campuses continue to provide for a small number of vulnerable students and children of key workers.
We are continuing all technical theory learning, English and maths, careers and employability development through on-line learning and virtual timetables, supported by teachers, assessors, learning and student support. Our students (and staff) are quickly getting to grips with the technology and developing their digital skills in the process.
We are currently putting plans in place for assessing College-based practical assessments for when restrictions are lifted. We are working with Awarding Bodies and sharing information with students, parents and apprentice employers on exams as we receive it.

Famous rally driver and Monte Carlo winner, Paddy Hopkirk MBE, visited our Wycombe Campus earlier this month to revisit the commemorative plaque which honours his work with young people and the motor industry.
On 14th February, our Fashion, Retail and Communication students were welcomed into popular clothing store, River Island's Distribution Depot in Milton Keynes!
