On Thursday 6th February, Ross Park, Curriculum Manager for Construction and Technology, held a carpentry workshop session with Action4Youth and Chiltern Hills Academy to give them an insight into the trade and a taster of what it is like to be a student at our college.
The session not only inspired the young people, it helped them develop their communication skills, confidence, self-esteem and their ability to work in a team.
With many attendees intending on coming to college in September, Ross received a very big thank you for an inspiring session.
“On behalf of Action4Youth and Chiltern Hills Academy, we would like to say a huge thank you for our session today. As always you were professional, you talked to them at their level and pace, as a result they all took part and enjoyed the session. You even demonstrated differentiation in the session for those both less and more able with such ease and it made the session so much more enjoyable for them all. They were inspired by the session and two are now convinced this is the career pathway for them. One was unsure to start with and was considering it and the other had no idea what he wanted to do, but your patience and incredible knowledge helped them to realise the potential in the area. Your praise of that young man with his dovetail joint is something he was very unused to and made his day even more. Four of the 7 today are also telling me they now intend coming to the college for their studies. One as a barber and two in hair and beauty.”
We look forward to seeing the students of Action4Youth and Chiltern Hills Academy enrolling on our courses in September!
