BrendonCare is a registered charity which runs 10 care homes. One being Chiltern View, a local care home for residents with dementia. BrendonCare approached Maria Soady, the College's Placement Leader for Health & Social Care and Childcare, asking whether our students would like to create Christmas cards for the residents, who would otherwise not receive many.
After what has been an incredibly uncertain year for care home residents across the country, our students were so enthusiastic about the project. This has been a great opportunity for the students to develop empathy and be involved with the wider community in a time when undertaking practical experience is very limited.
As the care home only required 30 cards, the deparment decided to run a competition between the students, which really drove their creativity. The results were judged following the care home's brief; asking for the cards to revoke memories and create a sensory experience. A huge well done and thank you to our students for the wonderful Christmas cards you created. And well done to Tia Bowen, a Level 3 Health & Social care student who won the overall competition. The cards have been delivered to the residents of Chiltern View care home, ready for them to enjoy in the run up to Christmas.
