Public Services and Sport students got the opportunity to speak with a number of organisations at their recent āMeet the Professionalsā Event.
The event, hosted at our Aylesbury Campus began with each professional giving the students a run through of how they got to where they are today. The students were lucky enough to speak with professionals from the British Army, The RAF, HM Prison Service, ICTS Canine Operations Centre, Gym Group, Soxexo, Royal Navy, NHS, Ambulance Service, Fire Service and Buckinghamshire Council.
Curriculum Manager: Sport and Public Services, Simon Robinson-Barr spoke about the event.
The organisations that attended the āMeet the Professionalsā Event came in to speak with our students to give them an idea of the career opportunities available to them and show them how broadly scoped their qualifications are. They were also here to discuss the importance of Maths and English, how itās used every day in their profession; but also about behaviours and attitude and the qualities they look for when recruiting.
Events like these give the College the opportunity to work with employers because we have our curriculum that we deliver from the awarding body, but whatās really important for us as teachers is that we embed the requirements and expectations of employers.
Head of Business Development, Lucy Milton reflected on the event,
Meet the Professionals was about creating stronger connections with our āProfessional Organisationsā and creating an opportunity for employers from that sector to engage with our students. The goal was to develop the studentās employability skills and widen their knowledge of what roles and careers are available in this sector. Students listened to presentations about what itās like to work in the different organisations, roles and career development, day in the life and learnt more about ways to get involved such as volunteering and work placements.
We would like thank all those organisations and employers for being a part of the āMeet the Professionalsā Event and for giving our students the opportunity to learn about the careers they may hope to pursue once they leave college.
