On Wednesday 13th December, the Health and Social Care students at our Aylesbury Campus hosted a Christmas Party for people suffering with Dementia which was also attended by The Mayor of Aylesbury, Councillor Steven Lambert, and Councillor Mark Winn.
This event was a result of the Employer Board Meeting held in July, where it was one of the projects to work on with Buckinghamshire Council, Aylesbury Community Board, and one of our employer board members Home Instead.
The students organised this event from creating activities, fundraising, securing grant money from the Council, working with the Home Instead team, designing the event, as well as organising the food and activities. They mixed with the Dementia patients and other clients from the Care Homes in and around Aylesbury throughout the Party. This also provided the opportunity for the students to gain practical experience of how to interact, communicate and engage with people who have health care needs which they are able to utilise going forwards with their studies.
