Buckinghamshire College Group has been awarded Disability Confident Leader status. The College is one of only 15 Further Education institutes in the UK to be awarded the status.

The Disability Confident scheme, led by the UK government, aims to encourage businesses and organisations to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they attract, recruit, and retain employees with disabilities.

Diversity, Equality, Wellbeing and Inclusion (DEWI) are central to our mission at Buckinghamshire College Group. These principles are embedded in our job adverts, induction processes, training programmes and throughout the entire employment lifecycle. Our commitment to DEWI is exemplified through initiatives such as Call It Out and Action Not Words campaigns, which are designed to promote a more inclusive environment for both staff and students.

Isobel Ellison, Executive Director of Human Resources at Buckinghamshire College Group, said: “Achieving the highest level, Disability Confident Leader, signifies that we’ve not only met the core criteria but have gone above and beyond to promote inclusive practices across our college.

"This accreditation highlights our dedication to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive in our community. Whether it's through accessible facilities, inclusive teaching, or tailored support services, we are committed to making sure that every member of our college feels empowered and valued.”

Jenny Craig, Principal and Chief Executive of the College, said: “For us, this isn’t just a badge of honour. It reflects our values and the work we do every day to foster an environment where diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our mission.

"Being a Disability Confident Leader means we’re continually pushing ourselves to do better – for our students, our staff, and the wider community.

"I’d like to thank everyone who has played a part in this achievement, particularly those who work directly with our Human Resources team, who have been instrumental in shaping and driving forward our inclusive policies and practices.”

Buckinghamshire College Group is committed to providing the support and resources necessary to ensure every individual can succeed. As we continue to lead by example, we invite others to join us in fostering a future where diversity is not only valued but integral to success.
